A first-of-its-kind floating garbage collector has been launched at the Dubai Harbour Marinas to help sweep the seafronts of unwanted debris. Called the PixieDrone, the robocleaner skims the water’s surface to intercept and store discarded organic waste, including plastic, glass, metal, paper, cloth rubber and more. Introduced by French company The Searial Cleaners, the PixieDrone is approximately 1.62 metres long by 1.15 metres wide and is relatively compact. It is fitted with a video camera and remote sensing technology, and can work for up to six hours, storing up to 160-litres of waste. It will be patrolling the Dubai Harbour Marinas, one of Dubia’s seafront districts. It is home to the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal and Dubai Harbour Marinas, the region’s largest marina.
