Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a pilot run of a next-generation electric bus on Route F13, which connects Al Quoz Bus Depot to key destinations like Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall Metro Station. The 12-metre-long Volvo-manufactured bus accommodates 76 passengers and features advanced systems such as high-definition cameras in place of mirrors, a head-up display projecting driving information onto the windshield, and an innovative air conditioning system suited to the UAE’s climate. It boasts a 470-kWh battery—the highest among electric buses tested by RTA—allowing a range of up to 370km on a full charge. “This trial will allow us to monitor real-world performance, including carbon emission reduction and energy efficiency under varying weather conditions,” said Marwan Al Zarooni, Director of Buses at RTA’s Public Transport Agency. The electric bus initiative aligns with Dubai’s strategy to transition all public transport to zero-emission mobility by 2050, while enhancing commuter experience through smart technologies.
