Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the Road Safety Film Festival, a student-driven competition encouraging university and postgraduate students to produce impactful short films that highlight the causes and consequences of traffic accidents. Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the initiative targets filmmakers aged 18 to 35 to spark creativity while raising awareness. “The competition aims to empower students to showcase their creativity and talent in producing impactful educational and awareness films that promote traffic safety within the community,” Al Khzaimy said. The competition features three categories focusing on: • The dangers of sudden lane departure • Driving distractions • Unsafe use of bicycles and e-scooters Winners in each category will receive cash prizes and certificates of recognition. The first place winner will get Dh7,000 while the second place winner will get Dh5,000. A Dh3,000 prize will go to the third place winner. “The topics where chosen based on the most common causes of fatal accidents in recent statistics,” Al Khzaimy noted. “We are also addressing soft mobility users, which have increased significantly in recent years.” Entries open on April 7 and close on July 14, 2025.
