Dubai: Maid jailed, deported for hitting a one-year-old infant

After assaulting a newborn, an Asian maid was sentenced to one month in prison, followed by deportation. The one-year-old victim is a Gulf national who was repeatedly beaten in the head. The child's father discovered the incident through video cameras that had been installed. The Dubai Public Prosecution charged the accused with assaulting the infant and sought that she be prosecuted under Federal Law No. 3 of 2016 concerning the rights of the child "Wadeema" and the Federal Crimes and Penalties Law. Official court documents state that the maid abused the one-year-old girl by beating her on the head twice. The infant's father confirmed that he saw the maid repeatedly hit his daughter on the head. On the other hand, the accused disputed the claims and said that she was trying to sleep by massaging her head. She went on to say that she didn't want to cause harm. The court stated that it was satisfied with the evidence of the occurrence and the father's testimony. It also noted that the accused intentionally hit the child and harmed her body; therefore, she was guilty of the crime. BKM/ Expat Media
