On stealing accusations, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian maid to six months in jail, deportation, and a Dh2,000 fine. The maid took jewels, electronic gadgets, clothing, and kitchen utensils from her employer's home, placed the stolen items in boxes within her room, and then left the country on yearly leave after requesting that the packages be delivered to her home country by a coworker. The case began in July of last year when a Gulf citizen filed a complaint alleging that he had been stolen by an Asian maid who had been working for him for six years. According to the complainant, his wife realized that her computer, tablet, and valuable gold jewelry had gone missing. During the interrogations, the complainant stated that he asked his staff about the missing articles, but they denied seeing them. While the maid was on vacation, the employer directed her coworkers to investigate her room in the house annex, where they discovered three boxes ready for shipment. The maid's coworker told him that the maid asked her to have the boxes shipped to her home country, but the shipping charges were higher than the amount the maid left for this purpose. He was also told that the maid communicated with her several times to inquire about why the shipment was delayed. According to official documents, the maid was arrested as soon as she arrived.
