13 new changes when visiting malls in Dubai

Updated on June 2, 2020   DUBAI – Malls in Dubai reopened their doors to shoppers for the first time in weeks on Friday (April 24) as Dubai eased movement restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Here are 13 new changes at your favourite shopping havens during the time of coronavirus.

1. Malls are open after curfew

Shopping malls will be open to customers until 10pm to adhere to the National Disinfection Programme, and can begin operations at 6am if necessary.

2. Isolation rooms required

Malls will be required to set up an isolation room for anyone found with symptoms of Covid-19.

3. Facemasks are required

The public is required to wear a face mask when going to the malls otherwise they will not be allowed entry. They also risk getting fined Dh1,000.

4. Temperature checks

Mall visitors are required to undergo temperature checks.

5. No mall entry for children, anyone above 60

Individuals above the age of 60 and children under the age of 12 will not be allowed to enter malls.

6. Sterilisation of common areas

It is mandatory for mall management to ensure that all facilities and common areas are frequently sterilised.

7. Cashless purchase encouraged

Bring credit cards or debit cards because malls and outlets have been told to encourage the use of smart and electronic payment methods instead of cash.

8. Limits at restaurants, cafes

Restaurants will not serve buffets, and customers will be given single-use cutlery.

9. Customer limit at stores

Stores will be required to hang red notices at the front door to indicate the maximum number of customers allowed inside.

10. Prayer rooms to remain closed

Prayer rooms will remain closed to avoid crowds.

11. No overcrowding

Malls and shops must maintain a maximum of 70 percent occupancy of common areas.

12. Elevators only for special needs

Mall elevators will only be available for people with special needs, and parents with babies in strollers. The elevators must only carry a maximum of 30 percent of their capacity.

13. Limited parking, no valet service

Up to 40 percent of mall parking lots will remain closed, while valet parking will be suspended. ICA/Expat Media
