Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expanding the Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station to increase passenger capacity by 65 percent and meet future transport demands. Once completed, the station will serve up to 220,000 passengers daily, up from the current 58,000. Its area will increase from 6,700 to 8,500 square metres, and hourly capacity will rise from 7,250 to 12,320. “This expansion project responds to sustained and rising demand for metro services, with projections extending to 2040,” said RTA Director General Matar Al Tayer. The station, which opened in 2010, has seen steady ridership growth—recording 10.57 million passengers in 2023 alone. It connects directly to Dubai Mall via an 820-metre air-conditioned walkway, opened in 2012. Planned upgrades include more escalators and elevators, wider concourses, separate entry and exit gates, and enhanced integration with bicycles, e-scooters, and public transport. New commercial spaces and fare gates will also be added. The project is a joint initiative between RTA and Emaar Properties.
