Four pickpockets at Dubai Mall have been arrested and will be deported from the UAE, according to reports on Monday (July 15). The Dubai Criminal Court found them guilty of forming a pickpocket gang to target busy areas in Dubai, such as malls. They were sentenced to one month in prison followed by deportation. Police said the men targeted visitors at Dubai Mall’s fountain area where large crowds usually gather. Police have noted a recent increase in pickpocketing in crowded places. On March 6, they stole a mobile phone from a woman after distracting her, but undercover officers from Dubai Police soon caught them red-handed. The men are aged 23, 28, 45 and 54. "The undercover officers observed and caught the defendants on the day of the theft. They were also captured by surveillance cameras,” a police officer testified. ICA/Expat Media
