Dubai authorities have arrested a man who was caught with a live snake and magic spells in his luggage at Dubai International Airport.

Dubai Customs officials also found a dead bird, a monkey’s hand, talisman and eggs wrapped in cotton believed to be used in black magic, according to Arabic newspaper Emarat Al Youm.

Inspectors found the items in a plastic box. The items were confiscated and handed over to the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai for further examination.

UAE law on sorcery, black magic

The UAE federal law criminalises sorcery, witchcraft or Blackmagic and anyone promoting or engaging in such acts will be penalized with jail and a fine of not less than Dh50,000.

“Whoever commits for exploitation or harm of others an act of illusion, sorcery, or quackery, whether in fact or by deceit, with or without consideration, shall be sentenced to imprisonment and fined a monetary penalty of not less than Dh50,000,” according to the Federal Decree Law.

The penalty also applies to anyone seeking the help of a witch or sorcerer, or anyone importing, buying or in possession of materials intended for sorcery or witchcraft. ICA/Expat Media
