A man has been arrested in Dubai after scamming hundreds of clients with electrical appliance repairs that were never completed. The Asian man, whose age was not specified, claimed to be a representative of three big organizations that specialize in repairing and selling electrical products, according to police. He allegedly set up three websites to offer his services and collaborated with a female accomplice who posed as his assistant and scheduled appointments. The woman was also arrested. Police were notified after disgruntled customers realized their appliances had not been repaired. "We received a number of reports from residents who said they have been victims of an Asian man who claimed to be an agent for a number of brands in the UAE specialised in selling and repairing electrical appliances," said Col Saeed Al Hajri, director of Dubai Police's Cybercrime Department. "They said he used three websites to advertise his services." Officers investigated the websites and contacted actual company personnel, who were unaware of the scam. The man was apprehended at his house in Dubai, where police discovered 600 client receipts stowed in a washing machine. A laptop and several mobile phones were seized. During questioning, the individual revealed to police that a friend had developed bogus websites using the logos of the three companies, which the police did not name. The police department did not specify how long the fraud went on before apprehending the suspect.
