Dubai man ‘threatens ex-girlfriend with death over unreturned gifts’

  DUBAI – A 23-year-old Chinese man has been accused of threatening to kill his 27-year-old ex-girlfriend if she did not return the valuable gifts he gave her when they were still a couple. The Chinese woman said that she refused to get back with the man, so he sent the threat via a text message to her mother. “He constantly created trouble for me... until March when he asked me to return to him all the gifts that he had presented to me. In May, he came to my place and I didn’t attend his calls or answer the door. A few days later, he sent the iMessage to my mother’s phone and threatened to kill me,” she testified. The man was apprehended after the 27-year-old woman filed a police report. He has been charged of threatening in writing to kill his ex-girlfriend. Prosecutors said that the man sent a text message that read: “If she doesn’t resolve the matter by tomorrow, she’ll be killed... I’ll kill you.” At the Dubai Court of First Instance, the man pleaded not guilty and accused his ex-girlfriend of filing the case out of malice. His lawyer also claimed in court that the woman owed her ex-boyfriend money, adding that she failed to remit proceeds to him for apartment and car rentals.
