The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a Criminal Court verdict convicting a Gulf national of importing white papers saturated with narcotics from a European country after purchasing them through a website. The General Department of Narcotics Control has received information regarding a shipment containing an illegal narcotic. The police squad suspected a specific cargo of documents arriving from a European country. The team took the initiative to manually search it and discovered a brown envelope with two white papers thought to be saturated with drugs. According to Public Prosecution investigations, the shipment was addressed to the name of a Gulf national residing in another emirate. After verifying that the two papers contained synthetic substances, the General Administration of Narcotics Control requested the shipping business to call the accused and arrange for him to come and pick it up. However, he asked that the shipment be delivered to him and provided his address and identity card as proof that he was the shipment's owner. During the investigation, the man denied any involvement with the seizures. He expressed that he was surprised to receive a parcel in his name. He continued denying any knowledge of the narcotic substances during his trial and requested an acquittal verdict. However, the Court of First Instance concluded that he was guilty and ordered him to pay a fine of Dh20,000. BKM/ Expat Media
