A 42-year-old man was sentenced to six months in prison for luring and stealing premium cars. According to the case files, the accused stole a Dh350,000 Mercedes S-63 last year. The Public Prosecution found that the accused called the victim using his number from the car owner's for-sale ad. The accused said he operated a car rental business and wanted to acquire the vehicle. They set a date to sell and transfer the car. A person came to the victim, claiming to be the brother of the 'car rental office owner' (the accused), and gave the victim a cheque issued in the rental office's name equal to the car's value. The victim gave him the car and transferred ownership to cash the cheque. However, the victim was surprised to discover that the cheque's account had insufficient funds. He reported the fraud to the police. The accused denied the charges, adding that he had bought the vehicle from the victim, giving him a security cheque of Dh350,000 and telling him that since his account was closed, the sum would be paid to him in cash after a week, but the car owner filed a complaint against him after two days. Later he confessed to this crime and admitted to carrying out fraud. The court also fined him Dh350,000 and ordered that he be deported from the country.
