A manager for a Dubai-based company has been fined Dh100,000 for fake employees aimed at cheating the UAE’s Emiratisation rule.
The manager was referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution for defrauding the Nafis, a government support programme that gives financial bonuses to Emiratis employed in the private sector.
Investigation revealed that the manager faked employment contracts for two female Emiratis in order to take advantage of the Dh5,000 monthly support from the government.
The court found the manager guilty and fined him Dh100,000. Meanwhile, the two Emirati women involved were told to return the Dh20,000 they received from the government.
Since January this year, private sector companies with a workforce of 20 to 49 employees were required to hire at least one UAE citizen and from 2025, they would be required to hire at least two Emiratis. Previously, this mandate applied only to companies with 50 or more employees.
Companies that fail to adhere to the law will be fined between Dh20,000 and Dh100,000. The case may also be referred to the Public Prosecution, based on the severity of the violation.
