An African man in Dubai has been sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined Dh100,000 for importing marijuana through a postal service from the US. The Dubai Criminal Court found him guilty of importing and possessing narcotics, and also sentenced the African to deportation after he serves his prison term. The case dates back to October last year when a postal company inspector suspected a parcel containing food and children’s items. On inspection, he found hidden substances in the food boxes and alerted authorities. A forensic report confirmed that the hidden material was marijuana. The African receiver of the parcel was arrested. During interrogation, he claimed that his friend sent him the narcotics without his knowledge. He failed to provide evidence to back his claim.
