Construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line is moving forward in International City, bringing major changes to one of Dubai’s most affordable communities. Work has been ongoing for months, with cranes, trucks and workers on site. International City will be a vital link to the Dubai Metro Blue Line, a 30-kilometre expansion of the Dubai Metro network led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), with consultants Parsons and Atkins Realis, and contractor MLCC. It is expected to open in 2029 and will include 14 stations, both underground and elevated. The line will link key districts, including Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City, Academic City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Festival City and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area. It will also connect directly to Dubai International Airport. Once operational, travel time to the airport could be as fast as 20 minutes and traffic congestion in serviced areas may drop by 20 percent. More than one million residents are expected to benefit by 2040. One of the highlights is Emaar Properties Station, which will rise 74 metres high and is designed as a “crossing gateway” landmark. It is expected to handle up to 160,000 passengers daily.

What does it mean for International City?

The Metro is expected to boost property values and rental demand in the area, which is known for affordable housing and diverse dining. Recent changes, including paid parking introduced earlier this month, aim to improve living conditions for residents.
