The Dubai Metro will begin operations at 5am on Sunday (January 12), three hours earlier than usual, to accommodate participants and spectators of the 24th edition of the Dubai Marathon, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced. The adjustment aims to ensure smooth and efficient transportation to and from the event, which will begin at 6am. The Dubai Marathon, organized under the Dubai Sports Council's auspices, is one of the city's most anticipated annual sporting events. Starting and ending on Umm Suqeim Road near Madinat Jumeirah, the Dubai Marathon offers three categories: a 42km marathon, a 10km race, and a 4km fun run. Thousands of participants, including elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and families, are expected to take part. Former World Marathon Champion Lelisa Desisa, a celebrated Ethiopian long-distance runner, will join the elite field. Known for his victory in the 2013 Dubai Marathon, where he achieved a personal best of 2:04:45, Desisa expressed excitement about returning to the scene of his triumph. "I have great memories of the Dubai Marathon, and I look forward to competing here again," Desisa said. First held in 1998, the Dubai Marathon has grown into a premier event in the global athletics calendar. It attracts top-tier international runners due to its flat course and significant prize pool. To further support the event, road closures in and around the race route will be implemented. Authorities urge residents to use alternative routes and adhere to traffic advisories during the marathon hours. ICA/Expat Media
