Dubai is once again pushing the boundaries of architectural and infrastructural innovation, this time with the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line, which will include the world’s highest metro station, standing at an impressive 74 metres. In a major announcement, Emaar has secured naming rights to the station for the next 10 years, with the station officially named Emaar Properties Station. The development was unveiled as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, laid the foundation stone for the Dubai Metro Blue Line, setting the stage for what will become a global engineering marvel. Designed by the renowned American firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)—the same architects behind the Burj Khalifa—the Emaar Properties Station draws inspiration from the concept of a "crossing gateway," symbolizing Dubai’s ambition as a future-forward metropolis. Covering approximately 11,000 square metres, the station is engineered to handle up to 160,000 passengers per day, with a projected daily ridership of over 70,000 by 2040. The sophisticated design reflects Dubai’s fusion of heritage and modernity, featuring Jura limestone, bronze metal panels, granite flooring, and glass ceilings that allow natural light to flood the space. The architectural language is described as one that "creates a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all visitors," with interiors echoing earthy tones and natural textures to reflect the land’s spirit and the community’s resilience.

Emaar’s 10-year naming rights

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Emaar was officially announced as the naming partner for the iconic station, which will carry its brand name for a decade starting in 2029, when the line is set to open. This strategic branding move aligns Emaar’s image with one of the city’s most futuristic infrastructure projects. Further announcements on naming rights for other stations along the Blue Line are expected in the coming months. The Dh20.5 billion project marks a significant investment in Dubai’s transit infrastructure. The 30-kilometre Blue Line will connect Dubai International Airport to key urban hubs, including Marsa, Dubai Creek, Festival City, International City, Al Rashidiya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis, and Academic City. Scheduled to begin operations on September 9, 2029, the line will feature 14 stations and 28 state-of-the-art trains, with a transport capacity of 46,000 passengers per hour in both directions. Notably, it will include the first-ever metro train crossing over Dubai Creek, with half of the route running underground at depths of up to 70 metres. Officials say the Blue Line will cut traffic congestion by 20 percent, while expanding Dubai's metro network to a total of 131 km, including 78 stations and 168 trains. This ambitious project is a cornerstone of the Roads and Transport Authority’s vision for a seamlessly connected Dubai.
