The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced that the GGICO Metro Station will be officially renamed to Al Garhoud Station, with the change taking effect on Monday (April 14). The update was confirmed by RTA through a public announcement on its social media platform X on Friday (April 11). The authority stated that the renaming is part of its ongoing commitment to improving user experience and keeping transportation information current. “In line with our efforts to improve transportation services and updating our information for seamless experience for everyone, we would like to inform you that GGICO Metro Station has changed to Al Garhoud Station as of April 14, 2025. New name, same destination, maximum efficiency,” the RTA said in its post. It's GGICO name was part of RTA’s innovative station naming rights program, which allows local and international companies to sponsor and rename Dubai Metro stations for specific periods. Launched in 2008, this world-first initiative aims to foster public-private partnerships while enhancing the city's transportation infrastructure. The naming rights program includes 23 stations across two metro lines, strategically selected based on factors such as location, passenger traffic, and branding value. Companies that participate gain a unique opportunity to promote their brand across station signage, announcements, and design elements, offering high visibility to millions of metro users. These renaming agreements not only give companies lasting exposure but also generate revenue that helps fund upgrades and maintenance of Dubai’s transport network, supporting the emirate’s broader economic development goals. For all the latest news from the UAE and the world, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube page
