A motorcyclist was seriously injured after colliding with a truck that broke down on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, according to Dubai Police on Thursday (September 25). The crash happened on Wednesday morning (September 24) just after Hessa Bridge towards Sharjah, when a truck came to a halt due to a mechanical failure. The motorcycle slammed into the rear of the vehicle, leaving the rider with severe injuries. He was rushed to hospital for treatment. This marks the second serious motorcycle-truck collision in recent weeks. On September 10, another motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a truck that had made an unsafe stop on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the Arabian Ranches Bridge. Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan, Director of Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic, said that accident resulted from “joint error” — the truck’s sudden stop due to a malfunction and the rider’s lack of attentiveness. “The motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries,” he said. Police have urged motorists not to stop in the middle of the road. Under the UAE Traffic Law, stopping without justification carries a Dh1,000 fine, six black points, and an additional Dh500 fine for obstructing traffic. “Stopping in the middle of the road is one of the most dangerous violations and often leads to fatalities and critical injuries,” Brigadier Suwaidan warned. He urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travel and to immediately call police if a breakdown makes it impossible to move the vehicle. “In such cases, police patrols will secure the vehicle and implement safety measures to protect passengers and other road users,” he added.
