No fines for minor Dubai traffic offences during Ramadan, police say

DUBAI – Motorists who incurred minor traffic violations heaved a sigh of relief after police in Dubai issued them promissory notes instead of fines recently. The move is part of the Dubai Police’s initiative for Ramadan, said Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Dubai Police Chief, on Saturday (June 17). Motorists who were caught making minor traffic offences during Ramadan were made to sign an “obligation letter” promising that they would not repeat the offence. The traffic offences covered under the initiative include using a phone while driving, driving a vehicle with expired car registration, blocking traffic, stopping in the middle of the road without cause, not wearing a seatbelt and driving a vehicle at night without headlights on. Motorists who are caught repeating the offence will be fined, police said.
