Motorists in Dubai are urged to take caution after new solid-line road markings were painted on several major roads, and drivers who cross them are now receiving Dh400 fines. The markings, known as “no passing lines,” prohibit lane changes or overtaking. They have recently appeared on Ittihad Road, Baghdad Street, Airport Tunnel, E311, and E611, with overhead cameras monitoring violations. Drivers say many of the new lines are located near exits. On E311, new markings near Exit 63 and the Muhaisnah area have already resulted in fines. “There are at least two of these solid-line zones on E311 near Muhaisnah, and they are on both sides of the road,” said a motorist who uses E311 daily. Motorists also reported similar markings on E611 near the Dubai–Sharjah border and in the Airport Tunnel, where a solid line appears just before a curve. According to the RTA Light Vehicle Driving Guide, drivers must never cross a continuous white line, as it is a regulatory marking designed to improve safety. Motorists have suggested installing warning signs such as “No lane change ahead” to alert drivers of newly updated stretches. ICA/Expat Media
