Dubai’s creative ambitions are set to reach new heights with the Dubai Museum of Art (DUMA), a landmark cultural project that will rise on the waters of Dubai Creek. Developed by Al Futtaim Group and designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the museum was officially unveiled last October 25, 2025 in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The project reflects Dubai’s vision of becoming a global capital for culture, creativity and innovation. Inspired by the sea and the pearl, the museum’s curved shell structure will enclose a circular exhibition hall symbolising unity, discovery and continuity. A central cylindrical opening will allow natural light to cascade through the building, creating an effect inspired by the shimmer of a pearl. Rising five storeys above Dubai Creek, DUMA will feature adaptable exhibition galleries, a restaurant, VIP lounge, event spaces, a library, study rooms and educational facilities. The museum will host modern and contemporary art exhibitions alongside artist talks, art fairs, panel discussions and training programmes designed to nurture future creative leaders. The project is expected to strengthen Dubai’s cultural influence while offering a global platform for artistic exchange and dialogue. Architect Ando, winner of the 1995 Pritzker Architecture Prize, is internationally recognised for minimalist concrete structures that blend harmoniously with natural surroundings through masterful use of light and space. His notable works include the Chichu Art Museum in Japan, the Bourse de Commerce in Paris and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas. When completed, DUMA is expected to become one of Dubai’s defining cultural landmarks and a major destination for artists and art lovers worldwide. ICA/Expat Media
