Dubai has earned the title of world’s cleanest city for the fifth consecutive year in the Global Power City Index (GPCI) by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation. The emirate outperformed 47 major cities, achieving a perfect score in the environment pillar of the index, which evaluates metrics such as waste management, green initiatives, and overall cleanliness. "This achievement reflects Dubai’s unwavering vision to create a sustainable, livable city," said Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality. "Our leadership inspires us to strive for excellence across all sectors, including environmental stewardship." Dubai Municipality plays a pivotal role in maintaining the city’s cleanliness through an integrated waste management system. Its 3,200-member team, supported by 855 advanced vehicles and machinery, oversees daily operations across 2,400 kilometers of roads, water canals, and public spaces. The city’s efforts align with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which aims to reduce waste production by 18 percent and achieve 100 percent waste diversion from landfills by 2041. Bin Ghalita praised the collective effort of public and private sectors, emphasizing that community engagement is essential to maintaining world-class standards. Beyond daily cleaning, Dubai has implemented smart systems for waste collection and electric vehicles for cleaning operations. These initiatives not only enhance efficiency but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions. "This milestone is a testament to our teams’ dedication and the support of our community," Bin Ghalita said. "Dubai is not just a city—it’s a benchmark for future urban excellence." ICA/Expat Media
