Dubai named cleanest city in the world

Dubai has been named the cleanest city in the world, topping the Global Power City Index of Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took to Twitter to celebrate Dubai’s newest distinction. “Cleanliness is a cornerstone of civilization and culture, and it stems from faith. Proud that Dubai is not only the cleanest, but also the safest and most beautiful city in the world. Let's work together to keep it safe, stable, and prosperous,” Sheikh Mohammed said. In Dubai, littering is illegal and fetches a fine of Dh500, which can go up to Dh1,000 if it involves trash thrown from a moving vehicle. The Dubai Municipality also regularly cleans all public areas in Dubai, including its public transport. The Global Power City Index ranks and evaluates major cities around the world for their livability, accessibility, economy, cultural interaction, environment and research and development.
