Dubai: New entity to establish for consumer rights protection and fair trade

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai's Executive Council, authorised the formation of a specialized body tasked with ensuring fair trade and consumer rights protection on Thursday (March 24). The announcement was made during a meeting of the Executive Council, which was chaired by Sheikh Hamdan and attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on Thursday at Expo 2020 Dubai. "The trade sector is the backbone of our economy. Today, Dubai is a base for global, regional and local companies to tap opportunities in the world's most attractive and fastest-growing markets, and we continue to strengthen our position as a global leader in supporting businesses to enhance their success and innovation. We seek to build an integrated system that supports equal opportunities and ensures the protection of business and consumer rights. At the same time, we aim to create the optimal environment for fostering the development of human resources and logistical capabilities in an integrated manner. Dubai has constantly demonstrated its ability to adapt to changes and create new opportunities across various economic sectors," Sheikh Hamdan said. Reducing anti-competitive practices, evaluating and implementing consumer protection rules, and educating consumers about their rights and obligations are among the roles and responsibilities of the new institution. The entity will also focus on ensuring that commercial establishments follow business rules, increasing corporate self-monitoring across institutions, and delivering a smooth retail experience in Dubai for the local and international communities.
