Sheikh Mohammed promotes Dubai officer for rescuing Syrian family

DUBAI - A Dubai Customs officer who rescued a family stranded at the Hatta checkpoint got the biggest thanks from the Dubai ruler himself. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, promoted Salem Abdullah Bin Nabhan Al Badwawi to the rank of first officer. Al Badwawi took to social media to express his gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed, "Thank you Sheikh Mohammed for your kindness. I only did this to help them, I want nothing for myself." The officer helped a Syrian family in need, who later shared details of their ordeal to Noor Dubai radio. The father of the family explained how Al Badwawi even offered his personal car when the family's car broke down near the Oman border. He said the incident happened on the first day of Eid as they were headed to Muscat in the morning. "The customs officer requested I park the car off to the side, and tried to help us get a tow truck or taxi so we could go back home, but no one answered us as it was the first day of Eid and very early," he said. "Salem Al Badwawi, the customs officer on duty, gave us his personal car keys and told us to continue our trip to Muscat," he said. The Syrian man said that Al Badwawi first drove with them to his home in Hatta to drop off his belongings before handing over his car to let them continue their journey. "After we finished our trip, the officer took us back to our home in Dubai, then called a tow truck and had them tow the broken down car to a mechanic to fix," he said.
