Dh10K fine, deportation suggested by waste management director

  DUBAI – The head of Dubai Municipality's Waste Management Department has proposed tougher penalties to deter the distribution of massage cards, which has become a problem in the emirate. According to reports, Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie said his department has submitted the proposal to the legal department so that changes can be made with regard corresponding penalties for violating the rule against the distribution of massage cards. Al Saifaie proposed the deportation of people found tucking massage cards on the windows of cards or on doorsteps of establishments and houses as he revealed that those who distribute the cards are illegally staying in Dubai. He also sought a fine of Dh10,000 on both licensed and unlicensed massage parlors that have the cards distributed. Currently, the fine for distributing massage cards is Dh500. This after authorities discovered that aside from individuals who illegally run massage services and advertise them on cards that have photos of women in skimpy attire to entice potential customers, there are also licensed massage parlors that assign people to distribute massage cards. Al Saifaie said they have to deal with many massage cards that litter the streets of Dubai and authorities have received complaints from motorists about massage cards tucked on the windows of their vehicles. Just recently, two Nigerian men were charged in court for attacking a policeman who attempted to arrest them for leaving massage services cards on car windows. The defendants admitted attacking the policeman but did not know he was a police officer.
