Loud party music from Dubai hotel irks residents

DUBAI – A new Dubai hotel popular for its late-night parties has attracted complaints from residents of nearby areas over loud music disrupting their sleep. Residents said they have been “woken every night during the weekend” by loud music coming from Five Jumeirah Village since it opened in September. A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said loud music from the hotel’s pool area can be heard particularly during Fridays. Another resident, Michelle Lindqvist, told The National that valet drivers “honking horns throughout the night” can also be heard in her Regent Court apartment. In a statement, a spokesperson for the hotel insisted that the noise levels “are within the permissible levels set by authorities during peak hours.” The hotel is reportedly working on a sound barrier to bring down noise levels. The Dubai Municipality said it has recorded 2,561 noise complaints in the emirate since January, with Jumeirah Village Circle included in the complaints. Five Jumeirah Village towers over the Jumeirah Village Circle and offers a 360-degree view of Dubai, with swimming pools on the balconies of each hotel apartments.
