An African passenger was arrested after attempting to smuggle marijuana using pineapples into Dubai International Airport's Terminal 1. Dubai Customs inspectors got suspicious of a crate transporting pineapples from a country famous for cultivating this type of fruit. The box was scanned, revealing 399 marijuana rolls weighing 417.30 grams inside the pineapples. Nothing more was found after searching and scanning the passenger. He was turned over to Dubai Police's Anti-Drug Department. Khalid Ahmed, acting director of Dubai Customs' Passenger Operations Department, said traffickers transmit small amounts of drugs first, then try to send more. Dubai Customs says they know the different tactics and work hard to prevent drug entry. Ahmed commended inspectors and the Smart Bag Inspection system at Dubai Airports for preventing smuggling attempts. BKM/Expat Media
