Dubai Airport Terminal 3 upgrades 5 smart gates for passport-free travel for expats, Emiratis

Expatriates and Emiratis will be able to go through passport control without showing their passport at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 following upgrades to its smart gates. Terminal 3 now has five smart gates that uses facial recognition to allow UAE residents to pass through passport control without showing their passport. Passengers only need to pass through the smart gate by looking at the camera. There is no need to scan any ID or passport during this process. To use the five smart gates at Terminal 3, residents should first register their passport or Emirates ID details with General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in order to use the service in their next travel. The GDRFA, however, said that majority of smart gates at airport terminals in Dubai still require passport scanning for passengers arriving or departing from the airport.
