Will Dubai become next hotspot for “astronomy tourism”?

  DUBAI – A new resort is being planned in Dubai, which is setting its sights on stargazing tourists to the emirate. A “dark sky astronomy resort park” will be built in Al Marmoum in a bid to make Dubai a destination for “astronomy tourism”, according to Dubai Astronomy Group CEO Hassan Al Hariri. The park will have an exclusive resort in the middle of a conservation area, said Al Hariri, adding that the facility will complement the Al Thuraya Astronomy Center. A national observatory called Al Suhail will also be built in Hatta, he said. The observatory will be built on top of a mountain and can be accessed through cable cars. The Dubai government has already given the go-ahead for the Al Marmoum project, while the Hatta observatory is yet to be approved.
