Five men have been arrested by the Dubai authorities and will face prosecution for posing as beggars outside mosques, hospitals and souqs in Dubai. According to a senior official from the Dubai Police, a group of five individuals, sometimes accompanied by women and children, had the intention of provoking an emotional response to victims. The gang would drive around using neighboring country plates to deceive victims, asking for help to return home, according to Maj Gen Jamal Al Jallaf, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police,. The Asian suspects were reportedly conning people to earn money illegally. Dubai authorities have detained 1,700 beggars in the last three years. Offenders will be subject to a fine of up to three months in prison and a fine of Dh5,000. Dubai Police urged the public to report those asking for money on the streets and online to hotline 901 or Police Eye/E-crime platforms. JAC/Expat Media
