Two individuals have been arrested in Dubai for exploiting bank accounts and digital wallets to launder money obtained through online fraud, Dubai Police announced. The suspects were apprehended by the Anti-Fraud Centre under the General Department of Criminal Investigation, following an extensive operation targeting a wider fraud network operating in the UAE. The arrests were part of Dubai Police’s ongoing public awareness campaign, "Be Aware of Fraud." A uthorities revealed that the fraudsters lured victims through social media, offering them small financial incentives in exchange for access to their bank accounts or for opening digital wallets under their names. Once obtained, these accounts were used to transfer illegal funds, allowing the suspects to obscure the origin of the money and make it difficult for authorities to trace the transactions. “The suspects were part of an organized scheme that exploited personal banking channels to facilitate the movement of illicit funds,” Dubai Police said in a statement. “They convinced individuals to either share their banking credentials or open new accounts and wallets, which were then linked to fraudulent activity.” Investigators successfully tracked the suspects’ digital trail and physical locations. During the arrest, officers confiscated several electronic devices and payment cards tied to fraudulent transactions. Legal proceedings against the duo are now underway. Dubai Police warned the public not to entertain suspicious offers or requests involving banking information or account creation, stressing that such participation could lead to serious legal consequences. “Sharing your banking details or opening an account for someone else—even for a small sum—can implicate you in financial crimes,” Dubai Police cautioned. Authorities urged residents to report suspicious activity via the “eCrime” platform or through the Dubai Police smart app. “Protecting your bank details is not just a personal responsibility—it’s vital for the safety of our entire community,” police said.
