Dubai Police has issued a stern warning against the use of hazardous materials, including fireworks and flammable substances, in stadiums, following the recent arrest of fans who ignited red distress signals during football matches. Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, emphasized that such actions pose significant dangers to spectators, players, and officials. “These violations threaten the safety of everyone in the stadium. We will take strict legal action against anyone who puts lives at risk,” he said. The arrested individuals had used red distress signals—typically meant for emergency situations at sea—during matches, creating a serious security concern. The authorities have reiterated that violating stadium safety laws could lead to imprisonment of up to three months or fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh30,000. Dubai Police has ramped up security measures in stadiums to prevent similar incidents. “Our officers are fully prepared to ensure the safety of all attendees. Any breaches of security will be dealt with firmly,” Al Ghaithi added. The warning is based on UAE Federal Law that outlines the responsibilities of sports fans. These include prohibitions against entering the field without permission, carrying hazardous materials, or engaging in any form of violence. The law also penalizes individuals who throw objects at spectators or on the field, use obscene language, or exploit stadiums for political purposes. Al Ghaithi reiterated that anyone found guilty of inciting violence or attempting to smuggle prohibited items into stadiums could face a fine of up to Dh30,000. “Fans must respect the rules and maintain the spirit of sportsmanship. Our goal is to uphold the UAE’s reputation as a global leader in hosting safe and secure sporting events,” he said. Dubai Police is working closely with stadium management and security teams to ensure that strict inspections are carried out at entry points. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity related to flammable materials or unauthorized behavior inside sports venues. Authorities also called on sports clubs to educate their supporters about the importance of complying with stadium regulations. “Football is a sport that brings people together.
