Dubai Police has arrested a reckless motorist who was caught on video driving at an alarming speed of 304 km/h on city roads. The young driver’s actions, captured on his body camera, went viral on social media, sparking concerns over road safety. According to Dubai Police, the footage showed the motorist weaving through traffic at breakneck speeds, violating multiple traffic laws. In one clip, he was seen speeding at over 190 km/h on Sheikh Zayed Road before accelerating to 304 km/h on another stretch. He was also filmed dangerously maneuvering between vehicles and using the hard shoulder. Authorities swiftly identified and tracked down the driver. "This motorist not only endangered his own life but also posed a serious threat to other road users," Dubai Police said in a statement on Friday (February 21). Following his arrest, his motorcycle was seized under Dubai’s strict traffic regulations. Under Dubai’s traffic law, vehicles involved in reckless driving or excessive speeding can be impounded, with fines reaching up to Dh50,000 for their release. Dubai Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring road safety and warned against such reckless behavior. "We urge all motorists to adhere to traffic laws and prioritize safety. These dangerous actions will not be tolerated," the police added. Traffic violations of this nature have become a growing concern in Dubai, prompting authorities to introduce harsher penalties for reckless driving. The city has deployed advanced surveillance technology, including AI-powered cameras, to monitor and track violators. Residents took to social media to commend Dubai Police for their swift action. "Good thing. These motorists don’t realize what a scare they give as they swerve past. Happening so often now that my car sensors warn me of an up-close vehicle, turning out to be a motorcycle coming from my blindspot," resident Saba J. commented. Dubai Police has urged the public to report dangerous driving incidents via their smart app or emergency hotlines. ICA/Expat Media
