Dubai Police have dismantled a criminal gang attempting to smuggle 89,760 Captagon pills worth Dh4.48 million, ingeniously concealed inside clothing buttons. The drugs, weighing 18.93 kilograms, were seized in “Operation Toxic Buttons,” carried out in coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) in Saudi Arabia. The three-member gang—two Arab nationals and one Asian national—were caught after weeks of surveillance and undercover work. Police confirmed the suspects repeatedly changed hiding spots for the narcotics, moving them between an apartment in Dubai and another location in a neighboring emirate. “Every move was monitored around the clock by our anti-narcotics teams,” according to Dubai Police. Officers raided the premises at the right moment, uncovering the drugs hidden in buttons. Authorities credited the success to highly trained officers and international cooperation. “This reflects the guidance of the UAE’s leadership in strengthening global security partnerships to protect communities from drugs,” according to Dubai Police.
