The Dubai Police has dismissed media allegations that an American woman was arrested in Dubai for shouting in public. In a statement issued through the Dubai Media Office, the Dubai Police said that the circulated reports were “misleading”, emphasizing that the woman was summoned for questioning. The Dubai Police clarified that the incident was related to a complaint filed by a car rental office that accused the woman of "slandering and defaming an employee amidst a dispute over car rental fees". "The individual was questioned as per legal procedures and subsequently released pending the resolution of ongoing legal proceedings," according to Dubai Police. Under the UAE law, defamation is a serious offence that can lead to a fine of up to Dh20,000 and a jail sentence of up to two years. KKL/Expat Media
