Dubai Police has fined 37 pedestrians for jaywalking in the Naif area since the beginning of the year, emphasizing the need for stricter adherence to road safety regulations. The penalties come as part of a wider effort by authorities to reduce traffic accidents caused by pedestrians crossing at undesignated areas. Brigadier Expert Omar Mousa Ashour, Deputy Director of Naif Police Station, highlighted the dangerous behavior of these jaywalkers. "These individuals were crossing the road from undesignated areas and ignoring traffic signals, putting themselves and other road users at risk," Brigadier Ashour said. Under the Federal Traffic Law, pedestrians caught crossing in non-designated areas face a Dh400 fine. Ashour further explained that such behavior is a major contributor to traffic accidents. "Pedestrians crossing from undesignated areas is a serious issue that endangers both themselves and motorists," he said, urging the public to follow the proper crossing guidelines. Dubai Police has been actively educating both pedestrians and drivers about the importance of road safety. Ashour stressed that pedestrians should always check that the road is clear before crossing and only do so at marked crosswalks or when traffic signals allow it. He also called on motorists to remain vigilant. "The safety of pedestrians is a shared responsibility. Drivers must also stay alert to pedestrian movements, especially in busy areas like Naif," Ashour noted, urging drivers to adhere to speed limits and watch for pedestrian crossings. This latest crackdown comes as part of Dubai Police’s broader campaign to enhance traffic safety across the city, which includes monitoring high-risk areas and ensuring both drivers and pedestrians comply with traffic laws.
