Dubai Police have issued a Dh50,000 fine after two young people were caught riding a quad bike on a residential street. Police said the vehicle was impounded and will only be released after payment of the fine. A video shared by authorities showed what appeared to be two young teenagers riding the quad bike on a public road. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, said the children’s guardian was summoned and “claimed he was unaware of the traffic regulations.” Police stressed that such behaviour “poses a serious threat to their lives and the safety of others.” Quad bikes are only permitted in desert areas. Riders must be at least 16 years old and under supervision. They are not allowed on city roads. “A report was filed, and legal action was taken in accordance with Wadeema’s Law, which criminalises exposing children to danger, neglecting them, or allowing them to engage in activities that threaten their physical or psychological safety,” Al Mazrouei said. The warning comes amid complaints about reckless riding of e-bikes and similar vehicles in residential communities and beach areas. In December, during the school holidays, Dubai Police confiscated 90 bikes at Kite Beach after riders were filmed speeding along cycling and running tracks and posting the videos online.
