Dubai Police issues new warning over massage business cards

  DUBAI – Dubai Police has issued a new warning over the posting of business cards advertising illegal massage services in the emirate. Police are targeting operators of illegal massage centers in Dubai, as well as distributors who place the business cards on windshields and car windows. The business cards usually have pictures of scantily clothed women. "Not only do such cards promote illegal businesses, but also contain indecent pictures that breach public decency," said Brigadier Jamal Al Jallaf, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police. Al Jallaf said an intensified crackdown on illegal massage centers in Dubai is underway. Police have arrested hundreds of people connected to the illegal trade, and have also disconnected more than 3,000 phone numbers used by violators. In the last three years, police have raided 218 apartments used as illegal massage centers, and arrested 2,025 people. Of that number, 1,643 people were charged with public indecency, while 165 others were detained for printing and distributing the cards. Police have repeatedly warned the public about the dangers of visiting unlicensed massage centers, saying they can face legal action as well as run into the risk of being mugged. There have been several reports in the past of people being robbed or blackmailed after calling the number on the business card and lured into visiting unlicensed massage centres.
