Dubai Police has issued a stern warning against the illegal collection of donations in the UAE, emphasizing the legal consequences for those who engage in fundraising activities without a proper license. According to the UAE federal decree law, any individual or organization that establishes, manages, or operates a website or publishes information online to solicit donations without a license can face imprisonment and a fine ranging from Dh200,000 to Dh500,000, or both. The law is stringent in its efforts to prevent unlicensed fundraising and protect the public from potential fraud. Fundraising in the UAE is strictly regulated, requiring a permit issued by the relevant authorities. This regulation extends to social media, where promoting fundraising activities without a license is also considered illegal. Individuals are prohibited from hosting, organizing, or carrying out any fundraising activities aimed at collecting funds from the public by any means. The law applies not only to those without a license but also to licensed entities that violate the terms of their fundraising license. Charitable activities must be conducted through authorized charitable organizations, and approval from the Ministry of Community Development is required before any group, federal or local authority, or non-profit association can solicit funds. The law recognizes two types of charity entities: those licensed and authorized by law to collect and receive donations, and those permitted to apply for licenses to raise funds through UAE-listed charitable organizations. The warning from Dubai Police serves as a reminder to residents and organizations to adhere to legal requirements when engaging in charitable activities. It also underscores the government's commitment to ensuring that donations are collected and used appropriately, safeguarding the interests of the public and maintaining trust in charitable endeavors.
