A man who assaulted a Dubai Police officer, causing injuries during an altercation at the Naif Police Station, has been sentenced to two months in prison and will be deported after serving his term. The incident occurred on March 29, 2023, when the defendant accompanied another individual to the police station at 9:40pm. The latter alleged that the defendant had harassed and threatened him and his family. At the station, the defendant was instructed to proceed to the investigation room for questioning. However, he refused to comply, loudly declaring his innocence and declining to provide identification. Despite efforts by the police officer to calm the situation, the defendant grew increasingly agitated. Witnesses reported him lying on the ground, screaming, and resisting requests for personal information. The altercation escalated when the defendant attempted to leave the station. As the officer tried to escort him back to the investigation room, the man resisted violently, kicking the officer and causing injuries. The officer sustained a wound to his right ear and damage to his little finger during the struggle. Additional officers intervened to secure the defendant and de-escalate the situation. The case proceeded to the Dubai Criminal Court, where the defendant admitted to resisting a public official with force and causing injury during the execution of official duties. In its ruling, the court highlighted the seriousness of the charges. While the defendant’s remorse was noted, the court imposed a two-month prison sentence, followed by deportation.ICA/Expat Media
