Dubai Police has issued a fresh reminder about the legal repercussions of insult, defamation, and slander in the UAE, particularly when these acts are carried out online. Residents were urged to be aware of the severe penalties that can result from engaging in such behavior via social media or other online platforms. According to the UAE’s law on Countering Rumors and Cybercrimes, individuals who insult or defame others through an information network, information technology, or information system could face imprisonment and a fine ranging from Dh250,000 to Dh500,000. The law also warns that these penalties are heightened if the offense is committed against a public official or a person holding a public service role. Dubai Police emphasized that inappropriate language or false accusations made online, even if done anonymously, can have severe legal consequences. The police warned that all online interactions are subject to strict monitoring under the country’s cybercrime regulations. Authorities also reminded the public that victims of online defamation can file complaints through official channels to take legal action against offenders. The police highlighted the importance of maintaining respect and courtesy in online interactions, urging residents to avoid engaging in heated exchanges that could result in legal troubles.
