Police in Dubai have rescued a European teenager who was maltreated by her mother in their Al Barsha home. According to police, the 14-year-old, identified only as Arya B., fled from her home to escape from her European mother. The case was uncovered after the woman reported to Al Barsha Police Station that her daughter had been missing for several days. Brigadier Majid Al Suwaidi said a security team was formed to search for the missing teen. She was found in “panic and pain” and looking skinny in worn clothing when police found her. “She was found suffering from a bad psychological condition due to negligence and inhumane treatment,” Al Suwaidi said. Further investigation revealed that the woman adopted the girl in her home country and brought her to live in the UAE to receive a monthly subsidy from her government. However, she neglected and mistreated her adopted daughter. Police did not reveal the teen's nationality but said that consulate officials have been informed about her condition. Meanwhile, police have provided her with psychological treatment as well as housing in a caretaking centre as part of efforts to help her recover from her ordeal.
