Dubai Police traffic patrols acted swiftly to rescue a female driver whose car’s cruise control malfunctioned on Sheikh Zayed Road, potentially averting a major road accident. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said that the operations room received a report about a vehicle speeding uncontrollably towards Abu Dhabi. The female driver was unable to deactivate the cruise control system. Traffic patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene and located the vehicle in the fourth lane of the busy highway. “They coordinated a careful escort while guiding the female driver through phone calls and direct instructions, informing her of the necessary steps to take in such situations,” Al Mazrouei said. One patrol positioned itself in front of the speeding vehicle to help bring it to a gradual stop, while others secured the surrounding lanes to prevent collisions. Thanks to this coordinated response, the vehicle was safely stopped on the side of the road with no injuries or damage. Al Mazrouei praised the professional and compassionate handling of the incident by Dubai Police teams. He urged all motorists to regularly check their vehicle systems, especially brakes and cruise control, to avoid such emergencies. He also provided safety instructions for similar incidents. “Ensure your seatbelt is fastened, activate hazard lights, and call 999 immediately. Shift the gear to neutral, turn off the engine, and restart. If it doesn’t work, apply steady braking pressure or gently use the handbrake while maintaining control of the steering wheel,” he advised. ICA/Expat Media
