Police official says he has received complaints from parents about the prevalent use of social media by their children in school
DUBAI – If the police in Dubai have their way, they want the use of social media banned in schools in the emirate.
This, after parents have complained about the prevalent use of social media by students in schools and even during class hours.
The police will meet with education ministry officials to discuss the possibiliy of banning the use of social media in schools.
Brig. Dr. Mohammad Al Murr, director-general of the General Directorate of Human Rights of the Dubai Police Department, said he received complaints from parents that their children stay online for a long time while attending classes.
"Parents said their children stay online for a long time on sites like Facebook and Snapchat and that they are annoyed. The parents said they can control their children when they are at home but they can't do anything when they are at schools," Al Murr said.
On the other hand, Col. Abu Bakr Al Jasmi, director of the Women and Child Protection Section of the Dubai Polive Human Rights Department, mentioned that some students secretly use their smartphones inside schools so they won't be caught by their teachers while others take a video or photo of their teachers and post the video or photos on social media without realizing that it is illegal to do so.
"The pupils can face legal action for recording teachers's clips and posting them on social media. The campaign will educate the pupils about the need to to be careful when they are on social media," he said.
Al Murr, meanwhie, said they will continue to conduct campaigns in schools about the dangers of social media that students face like being blackmailed or bullied as well as being enticed by strangers to meet outside the school.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
