Dubai Police have impounded a vehicle after its driver was caught recklessly overtaking on a two-way street, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision. Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said on Friday (September 12) that the incident posed a “severe threat” to road users. “This reckless act posed a severe threat to his own life and the lives of others, nearly resulting in a head-on collision—an accident only avoided due to the quick reflexes of the oncoming driver,” he said. He stressed that overtaking in prohibited areas is among the most dangerous traffic violations and can easily result in fatal accidents. Dubai Police confirmed they will continue to take strict action against reckless driving to protect lives and property. Under Dubai traffic laws, improper overtaking is punishable with a fine of Dh600 and six black points on the driver's traffic record. Reckless driving that endangers other people carries a fine of Dh2,000 plus 23 black points in the traffic file as well as a 60-day vehicle impoundment. Brig. Bin Suwaidan urged the public to assist police in maintaining road safety by reporting reckless drivers through the We Are All Police hotline (901) or the Dubai Police smart app. ICA/Expat Media
