Dubai Police have summoned a tourist and impounded a rented vehicle after a video circulated online showing him performing a dangerous stunt on Sheikh Zayed Road, one of the busiest highways in the UAE. The clip showed the motorist suddenly swerving and skidding on a bend, a manoeuvre that police described as life-threatening and strictly prohibited. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said on Friday (December 5) that traffic teams worked with the Cyber Investigation Department to rapidly identify and seize the vehicle. “The driver was carrying out reckless show-off manoeuvres and exposing his own life and the lives of others to direct danger,” he said. Investigations confirmed that the driver had entered the UAE as a tourist, and the vehicle belonged to a car rental company. Police said the behavior constitutes a serious violation under the Federal Traffic Law, which criminalizes driving in a manner that endangers public safety. The offence carries a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment. Brigadier bin Suwaidan warned that stunt driving—especially drifting on bends—often leads to loss of control, severe crashes, injuries and fatalities. “This offence is extremely dangerous and requires firm action to protect lives and property,” he said. He added that zero tolerance will be shown towards such violations, noting that more than 80 percent of stunt drivers have previously been involved in serious crashes. Dubai Police urged the public to report reckless behavior through the “Police Eye” service on the Dubai Police app or through the “We Are All Police” hotline at 901. ICA/Expat Media
