Dubai Police have raised the alarm over a new scam in which fraudsters are targeting residents through fake websites designed to look like official consumer protection platforms. According to the Anti-Fraud Department, the scammers lure victims searching online for consumer protection services, tricking them into entering personal information such as their name, phone number, and complaint details. The scheme goes further: scammers then contact victims directly, posing as employees of official agencies. They repeat complaint details to build trust and then convince victims to download malicious remote access applications, which allow the fraudsters to view their devices in real time. Once installed, these apps give scammers complete control over the victim’s phone or computer—including access to sensitive banking details. This has led to cases of unauthorized financial transactions. Dubai Police warned: “These applications give full control of a victim’s device to the fraudster, putting confidential data at risk and enabling unlawful financial activity.” Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant by: • Using only official consumer protection channels • Avoiding suspicious apps and websites • Never sharing banking credentials with unverified parties Victims or those who suspect scam activity are advised to report immediately through the eCrime platform or by calling 901.
